“Yoga is the calming of the fluctuations of consciousness,” writes Patanjali in The Yoga Sutras. Yet many of us have practiced yoga for years or decades, or more, and those fluctuations still won’t calm down. No amount of sweating, returning to the breath, or chanting Om addresses many of the painful emotions, images, and traumas that live within our bodies, and continue to wreak havoc on our interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, anxiety and depression. The aim of Yoga & Psyche is to teach yoga students and teachers how to use yoga practice to work with the psychological content that is unique to the Western psyche.

Thursdays at 5:00 - Happy Hour at Yoga Mountain Studio, 85 Bolinas Rd. in Fairfax
Come sip prana, and enjoy the wonderful natural yoga high that comes from entering into the body, digging deep into yoga philosophy, laughing at ourselves, and being in community. For those who have wanted to connect in a regular and informal way, and share in body, dharma, and spirit, I offer a weekly vinyasa-style class at Fairfax's wonderful Yoga Mountain Studio. The classes are inspired by tantric philosophy and depth psychology, but offer a place to cultivate the practice of yoga in communion and in community. 5:00 - 6:30.

The Inner Dimensions of Yoga: A Daylong Retreat
March 24, 2012, 10:00-5:00 Fairfax, CA, Patanjali Yoga,
Cost: $108
In this daylong retreat, we will open ourselves up to the deeper
dimensions of yoga, combining asana, storytelling of the mythical
roots of many of the yoga poses we practice, meditation,
psychological exploration, and rest/nurturance. Yoga is healing on
every level of our experience—physical, psychological, spiritual.
Some of us are drawn to yoga for its health benefits but find
ourselves increasingly curious about the deeper dimensions of yoga.
Others have been immersed in the spiritual benefits of yoga for
years, and continue to thirst for its “endlessness.” Together we
explore this endlessness and celebrate the healing benefits of yoga
in our lives. In the retreat, we will be surrounded by the tall
oaks that are visible through the windows of Patanjali Yoga, and
enjoying the good company of other yoga practitioners in community.

June 17, 2012: Yoga & The Feminine, with Mariana Caplan,
Sianna Sherman and Sally Kempton
San Francisco, CA, The California Institute of Integral Studies
What is the deep feminine face of yoga? How can the archetypal
energies of the divine feminine impact our practice? What happens
when yoga philosophy and practice combine with somatic
psychotherapy? How can we experience these insights in the body
through yoga asana? Join master yoga teachers Sianna Sherman, Sally
Kempton, and Mariana Caplan, as we dive deep into a shared inquiry
and discovery of the feminine heart of yoga, exploring it
philosophically, experiencing it psychologically, and embodying it
through physical yoga asana practice.
